🏫 About the Speaker:

Venerable Jue Ji was born in Taipei, Taiwan, and entered monastic life in 1990 at Fo Guang Shan, receiving tonsure under Venerable Master Hsing Yun. She has since dedicated herself to the study and propagation of Humanistic Buddhism through her work in Taiwan, Hong Kong, and the United States. She received her BA in English Literature from Fu Jen Catholic University, and later earned a PhD in Buddhist Studies at the University of Hong Kong in 2008. Her dissertation, “The Nature of Humanistic Buddhism—Ideal and Practice as Reflected in Hsing Yun’s Mode,” explores the theoretical foundations and lived expressions of Humanistic Buddhism in contemporary contexts.

As an educator and monastic scholar, Venerable Jue Ji has taught a wide range of courses, including Fundamentals of Buddhism, History of Indian and Chinese Buddhism, and Humanistic Buddhism. She has also offered extensive instruction in Buddhist scriptural traditions, teaching major sutras such as the Platform Sutra, the Vimalakīrti Sutra, the Sutra on the Eight Realizations of Great Bodhisattvas, the Śūraṅgama Sutra, the Avataṃsaka (Huayan) Sutra, and the Lotus Sutra.

In addition to classroom teaching, she has guided numerous retreats and training programs, including Triple-Platform Ordination retreats, Five Precepts, Eight Precepts, Bodhisattva Precepts retreats, Short-Term Novice retreats, and meditation retreats. She frequently offers Dharma talks, guides tea ceremonies, and has led public performances of traditional Chinese Buddhist chanting.

Venerable Jue Ji currently serves at Fo Guang Shan Xiang Yun Temple in Austin, Texas, where she works to localize and integrate Buddhism within American society through acculturation, cultural engagement, and community outreach. Deeply grounded in a belief in the oneness and interconnectedness of all beings, she actively participates in interfaith dialogue, community service, and educational initiatives to foster harmony, mutual understanding, and peace.
